(June 18, 2021, delayed posting) -- Two men (adults) were shot, one of whom died, in the 1300 block of Wesley Drive (a diagonal street east of Orange, west of Walnut) not far from "Jenni Rivera Memorial Park" in Councilwoman Suely Saro's CD 6.

It's LB's third shooting homicide in June to date; two were in NLB's Coolidge Triangle (CD 9 Richardson, LBREPORT.com coverage here and here.) [There was also a June 2 domestic violence-related shooting in the area of 10th St/Cherry Ave, described here.)

LBPD says in a release that on June 13 at about 11:08 p.m., officers were sent to a report of shots heard at the intersection of 20th St. and Wesley Dr, found a man suffering from gunshot wounds lying the roadway in the 1300 block of Wesley, ultimately declared deceased at the scene by LBFD.

A second man was located nearby suffering fron gunshot wounds; he was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Through their preliminary investigation, detectives learned two unknown male suspects approached the victims on foot," says LBPD's release. "There was a brief exchange of words before at least one of the suspects produced a handgun and shot the victims. The suspects were last seen fleeing the area on foot westbound on Wesley Drive toward Orange Avenue. The two victims are not known to each other and were involved in separate activities when confronted by the suspects. The incident remains under investigation; however, at this time, detectives are investigating the incident as gang-related."

The decedent is a 37-year-old Long Beach resident; details are pending notification to next of kin by the L.A. County Coroner’s Office.
