(July 1, 2021, 8:50 a.m.) -- An individual -- whose gender Signal Hill police without explanation initially declined to disclose -- was shot/wounded in the 9 p.m. hour June 31. [UPDATE: At midafternoon July 1, SHPD revisd its release to indicate the shooting victim was a man.]

SHPD says in a release the victim was walking in the area of Cherry Ave./Skyline Dr.; a male subject aproached and asked to borrow the victim's cell phone; the victim declined; another male subject approached and demanded the victim's cell phone; the victim ran; the victim was shot in the area of the 1900 block of Creston Ave. and transported to a hospital in stable condition.

SHPD's investigation is ongoing.

LBREPORT.com sought an explanation for SHPD declining to provide the victim's gender; SHPD didn't provide one. At midafternoon SHPD revised its release to indicate the victim was a man.

LBREPORT.com initially lodged an informal (voice mail) complaint seeking further information from SHPD's Chief of Police office.
