LBPD indicates in a release that a 2012 Chevy Tahoe was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into the security guard shack in the 2000 block of San Gabriel Ave. with the security guard inside.

Officers responded at about 3:09 p.m.; they performed life saving measures until LBFD personnel arrived who continued performing life saving measures but the security guard succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe abandoned the vehicle, fled on foot and is currently outstanding.

The LA County Coronerís Office responded and identified the security guard as Derick Smith, 54, of Los Angeles.
