|(March 22, 2020, 6:30 a.m.) -- Two men (adults) were shot/wounded at late afternoon Saturday March 21 in the WLB neighborhood just north of PCH and west of the 710 freeway (1st Council district/Zendejas.).
February 2020 ended with five shooting crime scenes in the 1st Council district (a homicide plus four non-fatal shootings, all east of the L.A. river.) There had been no shootings in the 1st district in March until this double-shooting.
LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Gary Dephillippo tells LBREPORT.com that at about 5:51 p.m. on March 21 officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Harbor Ave. Two men wers shot/wounded and transported themselves to a hospital. There's no suspect information; the exact motive is unknown but LBPD is investigating what took place as possibly gang related.

|The maps below show cumulated fatal, non-fatal and no-person hit shootings cumulated from Jan. 1, 2018 to date.
For context, the second map shows shootings cumulated from Jan. 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2017.
In an early November no-runoff special election, Mary Zendejas was elected to fill the vacated 1st dist. Concil seat. In 2019, the 1st district had the highest number of LB's shootings and homicides. Ms. Zendejas' election was supported by immediate past 1st dist. Councilwoman (2014-2019) Lena Gonzalez (who advanced to the state Senate in June 2019), LB Mayor (and previous 1st dist. Councilman 2009-2014) Robert Garcia and the LB police officers union PAC. The three sources circumvented LB's limit on campaign contribution sums to candidate campaigns by giving $10,000 each (a total of $30,000) to an independent expenditure campaign supporting Zendejas run by the LB firefighters union PAC.
