  • Governor Newsom has also issued a statewide "stay at home" order. Full text here

  • Health Officers for the Cities of Long Beach, Pasadena and the remainder of Los Angeles County, issued identical Orders -- Long Beach here, Los Angeles County here -- titled "Temporary Prohibition of Events and Gatherings of 10 Persons or More, Closure of Non-Essential Businesses & Areas.". Pages 4-5 of the LB text and pages 3, 4 and 5 of the L.A. County text, list "essential services" that can continue. Others must cease. The order states in pertinent part that violation is "punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both" (citing California Health & Safety Code section 120295, Los Angeles County Code section 11.020.080 )

  • Mayor Garcia signals at a 3 p.m. city briefing that the City of LB is planning to tighter restrictions re COVID-19 coordinated with L.A. County. Minutes later, L.A. County announces 5:30 p.m. briefing on an order in response to COVID-19...and uses the word "order."

  • In the noon hour, L.A. County Dept. of Public Health Dir. Dr. Barbara Ferrer said because COVID-19 is widespread, people should assume they're infected and others around them are infected and stressed the need to practice social distancing. Dr. Ferrer also said Public Health labs are finding about 21% tested are positive while comm'l labs finding about 10%. Also announced the second 2 LA County death, a man in the Pasadena area, b/w 30-50 years old with an underlying health condition. Dr. Ferrer says persons who've had close contact with someone who's tested positive don't have to be tested but should quarantine themselves for 14 days.

  • City of LB reports 2 more COVID-19 positive results (total cases 12), Says 3 are recovering, and approximately 130 persons now being "monitored"

  • In 8 a.m. hour CA time, FDA Comm'r speaks after President Trump announces admin moving to cut certain FDA rules to speed development and trials of anti-viral therapies to reduce severity of COVID-19 symptoms, President says working to develop "safe effective treatments," drugs "showing really good promise." Says an existing anti-malaria drug has shown good early results.
