Gov. Newsom Issues Executive Order Directing Multiple State Agencies To Focus Their Resources And Attention On PRotecting Seniors (65+) And OThers Most Vulnerable To COVID-19

(March 16, 2020, 8:25 p.m.) -- At early evening March 16, CA Governor Gavcin Newsom issued an Executive Order directing a number of state agencies to focus their resources and attention on protecting seniors (65+) and others most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Citing his constitutional authority and CA Government Code section 8567, Governor Newsom's action orders:

  • [Paraphrase summary] Several state agencies to focus on individuals "who are most vulnerable and most serious health and safety issues at licensed facilities..."
  • Several state agencies to leverage their programs and services to "support the home isolation of vulnerable Californians, including seniors and those with serious chronic undelrying health conditions"; and
  • Directs several state gencies to authorize "that first responders, health and human care services providers and workers who are asymptomatic to continue working...subject to [those responders, workers and providers] taking precautions to prevent transmission."
