(March 15, 2020, 11:30 a.m.) -- Long Beach Councilman Roberto Uranga was absent at the March 10 City Council meeting, attending a meeting in Santa Cruz in his capacity as a member of the CA Coastal Commission. LATimes.com reported yesterday (March 14) that the Coastal Commision's chair fell ill at that meeting with COVID-19. His wife, former Councilwoman/now LBUSD School Board runoff candidate Tonia Reyes Uranga has posted on Facebook:

My post election relaxation activities included a trip to beautiful Santa Cruz to join my husband at his California Coastal Commission (CCC) meeting this past week. The weather was perfect and the only rain was on Saturday as we headed home. On our way back to Long Beach we were met with the news that one of the CCC commissioners, the Chair Steve Padilla, had tested positive for COVID19. He did look unwell but he thought he was battling the flu.

While we had limited interaction with him, we made the decision after conferring with a health specialist, to self isolate for the next few days (14 days recommended).

My only regret is that I have not seen my grandson in a week and I cleaned out my refrigerator before I left leaving us with limited options. Beans are always our go to meal but need rice!

My projects during my isolation include cleaning out my storage room, reading, analyzing the final election numbers ( we are looking pretty good), planning a summer garden and shampooing my rugs.

Please stay healthy, be mindful of your surroundings as they now say asymptomatic people may be carriers, and be kind and help out when you can.

My heart goes out to the working families who have lost hours, their jobs, and their income and for parents who also lost their child care. My burden is light compared to theirs! If you see me in my car driving thru a fast food place or dropping off mail at a mail box just wave and keep moving. See you on the other side of this self imposed home stay. Love ya!

Ms. Uranga tells LBREPORT.com that Councilman/Commissioner Uranga was in a large hall with the Coastal Commission chair for a day or two but never sat together.

"We conferred with the Long Beach Health Dept. and they recommended the self home stay. We have no symptoms and are doing fine but if we get any we will call the health department for next steps," Ms. Uranga says.

[LBREPORT.com has extended our wishes to Councilman and Mrs. Uranga for their continued good health.].
