(March 26, 2020, most recent update 1:35 p.m. from 8:00 a.m. initial) -- With LB hotels no longer expecting visitors for the canceled Grand Prix and other erased Long Beach meetings and events, what about making those vacant hotel rooms available for COVID-19 related-use for homeless persons (or possibly others requiring isolation or quarantine)?

The City's Joint Information Center (city management operated) tells LBREPORT.com (March 25) that "the City is in discussion with various hotels throughout Long Beach to see what may be possible in this regard,"

What about using the Queen Mary (City owned ship leased by the City to operator Urban Commons)? Yesterday (March 25), KNX/1070 Newsradio reporter Jon Baird ran a story (a recorded piece) noting the need for additional COVID-19 homeless capacity regionally, spoke with L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn about the issue, and in a sound bite the Supervisor voiced general support for the concept of considering the Queen Mary. When LBREPORT.com asked the City's Joint Information Center about the Queen Mary, it referred us to the City's operator/lessee Urban Commons. Last night (March 25), LBREPORT.com asked an Urban Commons spokesperson, Fred Hulls, about this via email. Response pending.

Further as we learn it.
