(March 16, 2020, updated 7:50 a.m.) -- Updating initial information flashed in the midnight hour by LBREPORT.com, an LBPD media release release says an officer shot/killed an adult woman wielding a utility knife when he observed her allegedly attempting to stab her mother.

[LBPD release text] On March 15, 2020 at approximately 9:41 P.M. Long Beach Police Officers were called to a family disturbance in the 200 block of Molino Avenue. Officers responded and found it to be a dispute between a mother and her adult daughter. It was determined no crime had occurred and officers cleared the scene. At 10:20 P.M. officers were called back to the location. The mother was now reporting that her daughter was armed with a knife and was threatening her.

When the officer arrived back at the location he could hear an altercation inside the residence. The officer entered the residence through a broken front window. Once inside, the officer observed the daughter was armed with a utility knife. He observed the daughter attempting to stab her mother and an officer involved shooting occurred. The officer called for paramedics and immediately began life saving measures on the suspect. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the suspect deceased.

The utility knife believed to be used in the attack was recovered at the scene. The suspects mother sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene for the investigation.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office will be conducting a separate investigation of the incident as they do with all officer involved shootings.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending positive identification by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

We urge anyone with any information regarding this incident to call Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives Adrian Garcia or Sean McGee at (562) 570-7244.
