    LB Population Increases To 487,100; Lakewood & Signal Hill Also Grow

    (May 6, 2004) -- As of January 1, 2004, LB's population was 487,100.

    That's the latest updated figure from the State of CA Dept. of Finance Demographic Research Unit, which updates data for all CA cities and counties in Report E-1 each May.

    The latest report, issued May 5, shows LB's population grew 1.4% (the same growth rate as the the city and county of L.A.) over LB's January 1, 2003 level of 480,400. LB's population two years ago on Jan. 1, 2002 was 472,700.

    Lakewood's population as of Jan. 1, 2004 was 83,100, up from 82,200 a year earlier, an increase of 1.1%.

    Signal Hill's population on Jan. 1, 2004 was 10,650, growing 3.9% from its Jan. 1, 2003 level of 10,250.

    L.A. County's population as of Jan. 1. 2004 was a staggering 10,103,000, an increase of 1.4% from 9,966,200.

    Orange County's population on Jan. 1, 2004 was 3,017,300, up 1.4% from 2,975,400 a year earlier.
