(May 9, 2019) -- A crowd of over a 100 assembled on short notice at dusk May 8 at the corner of Temple Ave./3rd St. for a candlelight vigil to honor Jessica Bingaman, a professional dogwalker (The PawTenders in Belmont Shore) who perished a day earlier a day earlier when an L.A. man driving an allegedly stolen vehicle refused to stop for police, triggering a pursuit in which he crashed into Ms. Bingaman's vehicle, killing her and five of six dogs inside. Ms. Bingaman leaves a 10 year old daughter.

Earlier in the day, 3rd district Councilwoman Suzie Price sent an emailing inviting "anyone who needs to be with their village at this time" to spread the word and attend. At the event, her eyes visibly reddened, Councilwoman Pearce acknowledged a day of crying and spoke eloquently from the heart. LBPD Chief Robert Luna also spoke briefly, flanked by LBPD command staff.

Men and women in the crowd, some with children in tow and many bringing their dogs, wrestled with their emotions in grief. The crowd audibly gasped when a woman among them introduced herself as Jessica's mother...and thanked the speakers and the crowd for their words and actions. .
