(May 26, 2019, 11:10 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned that the investigation of Saturday's (May 25) fire (3300 block E. 59th St., area South St./Downey Ave.) where LBFD says it found drug processing equipment and chemicals is now being handled by the LAPD's Impact team ("Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force.")
LAPD's media office didn't have details on Sunday morning (May 26) but LBREPORT.com plans to follow-up on this aspect of the story. As LRREPORT.com reported yesterday, LBFD said it "discovered drug processing equipment and chemicals" at the scene and a Haz-Mat unit responded. The blaze produced a very large black smoke plume visible over much of LB and at one point escalated to a second alarm. LBFD says a man in his 30's was taken to an area trauma center with 40% burns.
