Subsequent development at this link: "D.A. Charges 18 Yr Old With Assault w/ Deadly Weapon + Violation Of Civil Rights + Dissuading Witness By Force/Threast + Battery; He Pleads Not Guilty; If Convicted As Charged, He Faces Possible Max Sentence Of Life + 17 Yrs"
(May 22, 2019, 1:10 p.m.) -- About a week after third-party-recorded social-network cellphone video surfaced showing what a third party described as a gang-related after-school fight about a block from LB Poly High, LBPD has arrested and booked an 18 year old LB resident on suspicion of attempted murder (PC 187) and alleged participation in a felony street gang (PC 186.22(a)) and taken two male juveniles into custody...and added that it believes additional suspects may exist.

In a release, LBPD says its gang detectives, in conjunction with patrol officers, worked through the weekend (May 18-19) to identify the suspects involved in the assault and on Tuesday May 21, 2019, LBPD took three suspects into custody and executed a search warrant on a residence.

LBPD arrested Bryan Blancas, 18, of Long Beach, and took a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old male juvenile into custody after a battery report subsequently determined ot be a May 15 assault with a deadly weapon on a male juvenile victim by a group of individuals near the intersectio of LB Blvd./E. 15th St.

Blancas was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and participation in a felony street gang and is being held on $1,040,000 bail at the Long Beach City Jail. Both juvenile suspects have been booked for assault with a deadly weapon that isn't a firearm and are being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.

LBPD says it "will maintain a heightened presence in the area and reminds the community to report any criminal activity directly to police. Posting a video or status update on social media should not be a substitute for a crime report. If an incident is not reported, it hinders our department's ability to fully investigate the incident to create a safer environment for our students and community. We remind you that if you "See Something, Say Something" and urge you to report suspicious activity by calling (562) 435-6711 or 9-1-1 in case of emergency."

[LBREPORT.com began pursuing the story immediately after spotting it on social media but declined to echo the video itself because (among other things) it identified/showed the faces of multiple juveniles/victims of violent crimes (we respect violent crime victims' privacy unless they specifically invite disclosure) and also included an alleged gang component we couldn't confirm; we also declined to ascribe a racial component that for now remains unconfirmed.]

LBPD Detectives urge anyone with information regarding additional suspects to contact LBPD's Gang Detail at (562) 570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted through "LA Crime Stoppers" by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the "P3 Tips" app to your smart phone (available at the Apple App store and Google Play), or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
