FURTHER UPDATE: On May 14 at 10:23 a.m., LBPD updated its release by identifying its suspect in the murder of Rosa Elena Hernandez as Amad Rashad Redding, 27 of Long Beach.
UPDATE: In a May 13 release, LBPD identified the victim of the attack as Rosa Elena Hernandez, 63, of Long Beach. It indicated that its suspect "was described as a male Black adult with facial hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and red shoes. Last seen on foot, running westbound on 64th Street" and at about 5:00 p.m.." LBPD's release says that "within four hours of the incident, at approximately 5:00 pm, detectives located a person of interest at a local business in the area of Downey Avenue and Artesia Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident and was later booked for murder and is being held on $2,000,000 bail. The identification of the suspect is pending until records can confirm his information."
(May 13, 2019, 6:20 p.m.) -- LBPD says that at at midday Monday (May 13), a man physically attacked a woman (unconfirmed if juvenile or adult), inflicting a physical beating (not a sexual assault) and then grabbed a nearby motorized scooter and used it to beat her some more.

The brutal broad-daylight attack left the victim dead in the 6400 block of Obispo Ave. (a block south of Ramona Park, 9th Council district.)

LBPD Public Information Officer Arantxa Chavarria tells LBREPORT.com that LBPD has a person of interest in custody.
