(May 14, 2020, 5:15 a.m.) -- On May 13, 2020:

  • Total reported positive test results spike to 1,094 caused (City says) "by a delay in reporting results from a private lab that had been contracted by Los Angeles County. These lab results date back as far as April 1. These results were from Los Angeles County testing sites where Long Beach residents had been tested."

  • Roughly 677 persons have recovered.

  • Another person has died, bringing LB's death toll to 49 (an individual over 80 years old associated with a long term care facility.)

  • 53 people hospitalized (up from 49 May 12)

  • A Long Beach Department of Public Works employee in Environmental Services Bureau who was in a public facing area has tested positive for COVID-19. " Their most recent day at the work site was April 30." The individual "is recovering at home in self-isolation."

    Evidence suggests that the restrictions and requirements imposed by the Health Officer's Prior Orders have slowed the rate of increase of COVID-19 community transmission and related hospitalizations by severely limiting person-to-person interactions. This Order is a measured step to partially move the City into Stage 2 of the Governor’s Roadmap to Recovery, while keeping a low incidence of person-to-person contact, ensuring continued Physical Distancing by the community, and strict adherence to other infection control protocols.

    This Order also allows limited solo or family outdoor active recreational activities on public beaches. The use of chairs, canopies, coolers, grills, sunbathing, or any similar stationary activity on the beach is prohibited. Additionally, this Order allows for dog parks and dog beaches to open to the public, provided that individuals strictly engage in Physical Distancing Measures. Outdoor museums may open outdoor spaces to the public provided Physical Distancing Protocol is implemented prior to operation. Stationary activities or exhibits that involve touching or contact of any kind at outdoor museums are prohibited...
