May 21 Update: Six Add'l Deaths Since May 19, Four Associated With Long Term Care Facilities; 1,495 Total LB Residents Have Tested Positive, Roughly 991 Have Recovered; 62 Are Hospitalized

(May 21, 2020, 6:55 p.m.) -- On May 21, 2020, the City of Long Beach released the following information, which we combine with information released May 20

  • LB's death toll has climbed to 68 (May 21), up from 65 on May 20 and 62 on May 19. Of the six deaths since May 19, four were associated with long term care facilities.

  • 1,495 total (cumulaed) LB residents have tested positive for COVID-19 as of May 21, up from 1,400 as of May 20. On May 19, the number was 1,362. In a release the City says: "Daily reporting of case counts continues to fluctuate due to heavy demand for testing (due to the wider scope of testing criteria) and backlog at various laboratories, causing delays in reporting."

  • As of May 21, roughly 991 had recovered.

  • 62 LB residents were hospitalized as of May 21, up from 56 on May 20 and 58 on May 19; but o May 18 it was 63.
