(May 1, 2020, 10:10 p.m.) -- In fast breaking developments, an OC Superior Court judge declined today (May 1) immediately to block a directive by Governor Gavin Newsom (declined to issue a Temporary Restraining Order sought by the cities of Huntingotn Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point) and instead set a May 11 hearing on the isssues raised by the citiers' challenges on May 11. On the same day, demonstrators converged on downtown Huntington Beach to protest Governor Newsom's OC beach closure directive and other COVID-19 restrictions. (Coverage by Voice of OC here.)

Up the coast in Long Beach, during a regularly scheduled May 1 City of LB COVID-19 briefing, Mayor Robert Garcia voiced support for the Governor's stance and urged LB residents to complu with the orders of LB's Health Officer (and L.A. County's Health Officer) and not to go to LB or LA County beaches this weekend, which remain closed..
