(May 28, 2021, 4:45 a.m.) -- Long Beach had two shootings within about three hours on May 27. LBPD Watch Commander/Lt. Brandon Deis says:

  • On May 27 at about 11:47 a.m., oficers responded to a "shots" call in the area of 7th St./Cerritos Ave. (one block east of Alamitos Ave., border CD 1/Zendejas and CD 2/Allen)

    "Witnesses stated multiple Hispanic males in their early 20’s shot at the victim who also fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. The intended victim did not appear to be hit by gunfire. Motive for the shooting is not known at this time. Gang detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing."

  • On May 27, 2021 at abut 2:52 p.m. officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call near 37th St/Long Beach Blvd. (CD 8/Austin.) "The victim was driving a vehicle when he was confronted by another driver. The other driver, described as a male Hispanic, shot at the victim from his vehicle. Neither the victim nor his vehicle were stuck by gunfire. Road rage is a possible motive for the shooting. Gang detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing."
