(May 29, 2021, 9:15 p.m.) -- On Saturday May 29, Naples residents (at peak about thirty) rallied and collected a steady stream petition signatures to recall L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón.

They set up a small table on the sidewalk outside Naples Elementary School in his neighborhood.

Participants called Gascón's policies cruel to crime victims and kind to those found guilty by, among other things, refusing to charge defendants to the full extent of the law and, if found guilty, refusing to apply enhanced (toughened) sentences.

Several charged Gascón's practices led to crime increases in San Francisco (where was previously DA) and said they want to prevent him from repeating the process in L.A. County.

Paulina Camberos said her brother was jumped by three gang members (based on his tattoo) and ran away but was shot in the back. "Now this guy that pulled the trigger on my brother was 17 at the time. Now he has a chance to get out."

Ms. Camberos said she and her family "went to court for a whole year straight every single day...having to quit work just to be there...It's hard, it's not fair. There's so many families suffering. We need this man [Gascón] out" and added: "You are not fit for your position, and that's that."

DA Gascón wasn't visible publicly but has previously said his policies implement overdue reforms, encourage rehabilitation and ultimately reduce recidivism that creates more crime victims.
