(May 7, 2021, 9:35 p.m.) -- The CA Dept. of Finance Demographic Research Unit's most recent population estimates as of Jan. 1, 2021 (Report E-1 used by all state agencies) indicate Long Beach's population 467,730, falling by 0.92% from 472.052 a year earlier.

The state agency says the City of Los Angeles dropped to 3,923,341, a decline of 1.31%,

Long Beach remains CA's 7th largest city behind Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno and Sacramento.

Lakewood's population is 80,218. Signal Hill's population is 11,617. Both cities declined 0.67% from Jan.1, 2020's estimate.

Los Angeles County's population fell 0.9% to 10,044,458. Orange County declined 0.8% to 3,153,764.

And no, not all CA cities lost population; some gained. Among a lengthy list of cities that grew: Calimesa (Riverside county, +7.5%) Coronado (San Diego county +4.36%), Monrovia (LA County +1.4%), Stanton (OC +1,1%), Laguna Niguel (OC +0.94%), Calabasas (LA County, +0.8%), Hidden Hills (LA County, +0.6%) South Gate (LA County +0.42%), Pasadena (LA County +0.2%), Santa Clarita (LA County +0.2%), Fresno (Fresno county +0.61%)...and Doug Krikorian's San Joaquin valley hometown of Fowler grew (Fresno county +2.56%.)
