(November 9, 2018, 8:15 p.m.) -- In an updated vote tally -- with nearly 1 million Countywide provisional and late arriving vote by mail ballots not yet counted -- incumbent Sheriff Jim McDonnell has cut the lead of challenger Alex Villanueva from roughly 5,000 votes to a razor thin 335 votes...that's 867,964 (50.01%) for Villanueva, and 867,629 (49.99%) for McDonnell.
The L.A. County Registrar-Recorder says the Nov. 9 update included 123,003 vote by mail ballots, leaving roughly 934,000 ballots still to be counted. Those outstanding ballots consist of roughly 385,000 provisional ballots, 537,000 vote by mail ballots (including those received through Early Voting and Vote by Mail drop-offs), 8,000 miscellaneous ballots (includes damaged/withheld ballots) and 4,000 voting using a new conditional voter registration system (individuals who missed the Oct. 22 registration deadline can cast a ballot by going to a County designated site and registering to vote, and their ballot is counted when their registration is vertified.) The next update is expected on November 13. Developing. [Scroll down for further.] |
