(November 7, 2018, 9:15 a.m.) -- Josh Lowenthal won't be following his parents Alan and Bonnie Lowenthal into the statehouse...at least not yet.

Mr. Lowenthal, a former LB resident who now lives in the Huntington Harbor area, attempted to ride a Dem "blue wave" into an open OC Assembly seat but was outpolled by Republican Tyler Diep by roughly 54% to 46%.

Amnesia File: Mr. Lowenthal is a savvy businessman who helped build and is president of FreeConferenceCall.com and also serves as board president of the LB-based Children Today non-profit. In December 2008, Mr. Lowenthal introduced Robert Garcia at the press event where Mr. Garcia announced his candidacy for the 1st district Council seat opened by the election of Bonnie Lowenthal.to the state Assembly.

Mr. Lowenthal's high visibility role served an important political purpose. In 2005, CSULB-grad Garcia (then an aide to 3rd dist. Councilman Frank Colonna, a Repub) led an effort to revitalize LB's Young Republicans. In 2006, after Councilman Colonna finished second to former SCE President (and Dem) Bob Foster, Garcia changed his party affiliation and moved out of the 3rd district and into the LB's heavily-Dem 1st district where Councilwoman Bonnie Lowenthal was expected to seek and win a state Assembly seat.

Within weeks of Councilwoman Lowenthal's election to the Assembly, re-invented Dem Garcia chose Mr. Lowenthal, whose name carries LB Dem political weight, to introduce him as the fitting 1st dist. Council successor. In the no-runoff 1st dist. special election, Garcia benefited from 3rd district campaign contributions and was elected to the Council in early 2009. .

And the rest is history.
