(UPDATED Nov. 2 from initial Nov. 1, 2019, 5:25 a.m.) -- An outpouring of grief and prayers, and generosity from friends and strangers, have oroduced $134,000+ (thus far) via a GoFundMe page, after a father and (update) his infant son perished, and the mother remains in critical condition, after a vehicle struck them while walking on Halloween night in LB's Los Cerritos neighborhood. LBPD has arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.

LBREPORT.com reported initial information before dawn Nov.1 via LBPD's Watch Commander; later that day, and now updated on Nov. 2, LBPD provided details:

On October 31, 2019 at approximately 9:55 p.m., officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place involving a vehicle and three pedestrians, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Nov. 2 Update: Officers were notified that the juvenile [a three year old] involved in the October 31 traffic collision succumbed to his injuries earlier that morning.

...Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and began administering life-saving measures to the critically injured pedestrians. All three pedestrians were transported to local hospitals, where the male adult pedestrian later succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2002 Toyota Sequoia was traveling southbound on Country Club Drive approaching Los Cerritos Park when he failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway, drove up onto the sidewalk, and struck the three pedestrians, who were walking southbound on the west sidewalk of Country Club Drive. The three pedestrians are all residents of Long Beach and are from the same family.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 20-year-old Carlo Navarro of Long Beach, was detained at the scene and a DUI investigation was initiated. Navarro was taken into custody and booked for driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter and is being held in the Long Beach City Jail on $100,000 bail...

The L.A. County Coroner's office identifies the deceased father as Joseph Yousef Masou Awaida, 30, of Long Beach. (Awaiting official confirmation of the name of the infant child.)

Mr. Awaida's Facebook page indicates he works at (we presume owns) Joe's Auto Center (2801 LB Blvd.). He attended LB Poly High.

A GoFundMe page "For Joseph, Raihan, and their baby boy Omar" reported (as of Nov. 2, 7:20 p.m.) contributions of $134,775 out of its $150,000 goal. It can be accessed at this link.
