(Nov. 6, 2020, 4:05 p.m.) -- Less than five hours after three people (including two juveniles) were shot/wounded in rthe 700 block of Chestnut Ave. (Willmore City neighborhood), LB's 1st Council district (Zendejas) had more gunfire, the a mile due east in the 700 block of Olive Ave., where rounds struck an unoccupied vehicle in the neighborhood near St. Anthony Church.

LBPD Public Information Officer Allison Gallagher tells LBREPORT.com that on Nov. 5 at about 9:25 p.m. officers responded to the 700 block of Olive Avenue regarding a shots call. "Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting, including bullet casings and an unoccupied vehicle that was struck by gunfire."

No physical injuries were reported; there's no known suspect information; a motive for the shooting is unknown; and LBPD's investigation is ongoing.

It's the most recent shooting in LB's 1st Council district, represented since Dec. 2019 by Councilwoman Mary Zendejas, who took office following a no-runoff special election supported by Mayor Robert Garcia, immediate past CD 1 incumbent (now state Senator) Lena Gonzalez and the LB Police Officers union (LBPOA PAC.)

Councilwoman Zendejas was among LB Councilmembers who urged defunding 48 more officers in Sept. 2020 (on top of 180+ defunded in budgets from 2009-2014) and not restored despite LB voters' passage of the 2016 "Measure A" sales tax increase. The officers defunded in FY 13 by the former Council that included then 1st dist. Councilman Garcia included LBPD's former 22-member field anti-gang unit, not restored in budgets recommended since 2014 by Mayor Garcia. (LBREPORT.com detailed coverage here.)

Since June 1, 2020, residents and businesses in LB's mainly working class 1st Council district have experience the highest number of shootings of any LB Council district.

An LBPD Commander recently told LBREPORT.com that recent shooting do NOT indicate Long Beach is having a gang war." (Recent shootings in Central LB and parts of NLB reported by LBREPORT.com here, here, here, here, here and here)
