(Nov. 15, 2020, 3:15 p.m.) -- Long Beach had three more downtown/Central area shootings within a little over 24 hours (Nov. 14-15.) Two were in LB's 1st Council district (Zendejas) and a third was in the 6th district (Andrews) a block north of its border with the 1st district (Zendejas.)

  • LBPD overnight Watch Commander Aaron Alu indicates (preliminary information) LBPD detectives believe a no-person-hit shooting (with five junvenile suspects plus one adult suspect and a weapon recovered near the 800 block of E. 9th St./1st disrict) was gang related. At about 3:20 p.m., a pedestrian flagged down LBPD officers in the area of 10th St/LB Blvd. who said suspects in a nearby vehicle robbed him at gunpoint earlier that day.

LBPD officers spotted the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to yield and an LBPD-authorized pursuit followed. It ended in the area of Cherry Ave/Willow St. (Signal Hill) with LBPD taking five male juveniles and a man (adult) suspect into custody.

Within a few hours, Central and downtown Long Beach had two more shootings.

  • LBPD Public Information Officer Ivan Garcia tells LBREPORT.com that at about 9:10 p.m. on November 14, officers were sent to the 1000 block of Maine Avenue regarding a no-person-hit shooting. They found evidence of the shooting (spent casings) but no persons hit. LBPD says the motive for the shooting is unknown and ita investigation is ongoing.

  • .On November 15 at about 5:20 a.m., LBPD officers were sent to the 1900 block of Chestnut Ave. (one block north of PCH border with 1st district) regarding gunfire striking parked vehicles. An officer located the vehicles but found no persons struck by the gunfire. LBPD says the reason for the shooting is unknown; there's no immediate suspect information available; and LBPD's investigation is ongoing.

On Nov. 8, a man (adult) walking near the area of PCH/Locust (a few blocks west of Poly High) says a silver vehicle pulled up alongside him and a man (adult) shot at him and fled the area. LBPD detectives believe the shooting was gang related.
