(Nov. 11, 2020, 8:05 p.m.) -- On November 10, parents/guardians of students using the Garfield (2240 Baltic Ave.) Child Development Center --for the second time -- received a letter notifying them that "we have recently received information about at least one confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a person on November 9th, 2020."

The letter from CDC Program Coordinator Reshon Moutra said "This is a general notification to keep you informed and share that all of the safety protocols were in place and a separate exposure notification was given to parents of students who may have been potentially exposed...We are informing you of this circumstance in an abundance of caution and to ask you to closely monitor your child’s health." Please note that all information, including the name(s) of ill persons or students, is confidential in compliance with privacy laws. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and diligence about monitoring your health and practicing preventative measures. How You Can Help Be proactive about reducing the number of interactions that children have with one another by practicing physical (or social) distancing (staying at least 6 feet apart) to limit the spread of the coronavirus. In addition to physical distancing, another important tool to prevent the spread of coronavirus is to practice good hygiene. Important public health prevention messages include: ? Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after being in a public place, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. ? Keeping your child home when they are sick. Anyone with symptoms consistent with COVID 19 should remain at home in isolation for a minimum of 10 days. ? Limit close contact with people who are sick, and avoid sharing food, drinks, or utensils. ? Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes. ? Health screening for COVID 19 prior to entering the facility, which includes asking about symptoms, exposure to COVID 19, and a temperature check help to keep our educational setting safe. Your health and safety is of utmost importance to us. Please reach out directly should you have concerns or questions about this notification. With kind regards, ________________________ Reshon Moutra, CDC Program Coordinator Horace Mann Elemenay's (257 Coronado Ave.) Child Development Center (CDC) received notification of "at least one confirmed case" of COVID-19" in a "person" (not otherwise identified) on November 6. "This is a general notification to keep you informed and share that all of the safety protocols were in place and a separate exposure notification was given to parents of students who may have been potentially exposed," wrote principal Tracy Fiala. "We are informing you of this circumstance in an abundance of caution and to ask you to closely monitor your child’s health."

The Mann letter is similar to those previously sent to parents/guardians at Tincher (Nov. 5), preceded in October and September by Twain (CDC), Burroughs (Head Start), Henry (Kid's Club although Kid's Club not directly involved), Dooley Day Care (CDC), Garfield (CDC), Bixby Kids Club, Webster (CDC), Edison (Head Start), the Jordan Baseball Program and Willard (CDC.)

As of Nov. 9 at 11:00 a.m., LBUSD's COVID dashboard at this link indicates 45 confirmed COVID-19 cass among 28 LBUSD employees, 15 LBUSD students and two vendors...and this is with only some LBUSD campuses open for CDC, limited day care and special programs. LBUSD campuses are otherwise closed to in person instruction.
