(October 26, 2018. 2:15 p.m.) -- Heads-up, Long Beach. You can click this link to get discounted tickets for Saturday's LB's Historical Cemetery Tour, an annual entertaining and educational fundraiser for the non-profit Historical Society of Long Beach (HSLB.)

HSLB holds the event every year on the last Saturday on or before Halloween at LB's two oldest cemeteries (Sunnyside and LB Municipal cemeteries), adjacent to each other on Willow St. between Orange and California Aves. The event isn't scary; it's open to all ages and features graveside performances by actors (professional and volunteers) who describe the life, times and demise of the person at rest below. The performers wear period historical cosumtes and the lives they describe were those of ordinary LB residents, rich and poor, as well as those involved in shaping LB's history.

When: Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Eight graveside performances run simultaneously every 20 minutes beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the last round starting at 2:40 p.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m..

Tickets: Discounted tickets are available through 11:59 p.m. Friday Oct 26: $20 (general admission), $15 for Historical Society members, $8 for ages 5-18 (great event for students) and $1 for kidlets 4 and under. If you show up on Saturday morning, adult non-member and member tickets will increase by $5 so you'll be welcomed for $25 (general admission) at the gate, $20 for HSLB members.

Tour-Taker Tip: HSLB says: Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven ground. Hats and or sunscreen are also suggested.

Check-In: Begins at 8:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery (1095 E Willow) and Municipal Cemetery (the ticket entrance is off Orange Ave just north of Willow). Remember to print your online tickets or bring your green issued tickets with you to check in. Arrive well before noon if you plan to view every performance.

Parking: Free at Sunnyside Cemetery (1095 E. Willow) but fills up quickly; HSLB encourages carpools and cycling. Due to narrow cemetery roads, large vehicles (full-sized SUVs, pickups, vans, etc.) are asked to park outside of the cemetery. Additional free parking is available at Willow Springs Park, 2745 Orange Ave, as well as street parking south of Willow St along Cerritos, Lemon and Lewis Avenues, and street parking near 27th St and California Ave. Bicycle parking is free along the chain link fence at Municipal Cemetery along Willow Avenue. Bring locks to secure your bicycle. Taxis, Uber and Lyft should drop passengers at Willow Springs Park entrance; there's no stopping permitted along Willow St.
