(October 31, 2018, 10:45 a.m.) -- While others echoed corporate verbiage describing Walmart's plan to create a "re-imagined" experience in a northern vacant area at ELB's Towne Center here [one plan is here, looks to us like a mini-consumer mall], LBREPORT.com was asking Long Beach city officials some questions about it.

Does this require any City Hall approvals? What are they? Who decides and when? What happens next?

On Oct. 30, City of Long Beach Community Information Officer emailed LBREPORT.com:

[Scroll down for further.]

The City has not received a planning application from Walmart on the proposed project. So, the City has no information to share about it at this time. We would have to defer to Walmart/developer for proposed project specs, timeline, etc.

In regard to the general planning process, Walmart would need City approval, for example, for any building square footage it wants to add, or for any change to their alcohol sales.

In regard to the land. The City owns it and it's in a long-term lease to a third party, who then leases it to tenants, including Walmart.

...[A]s of today (Oct 30) the City has no information on the proposal.

[Comment: LBREPORT.com would be very surprised if Walmart would create a big noise for something like this without having first spoken with and received some initial reactions from some people inside City Hall. Further on this to follow.]

The existing Long Beach site located at 7250 Carson Blvd will feature a 2 phase development plan that will introduce the following to the existing layout.

Beverage

The site will feature diverse dining choices making it the natural "go-to" destination for any night out.

So...as a potential consumer and possible neighbor, do you think what's described it's a good idea? A not-so-good idea? Do you think it's a big deal or an average story? Apart from potential traffic or other neighborhood impacts, do Walmart's corporate plans matter to you as a consumer or in terms of your everyday life? LBREPORT.com welcomes thoughtful responses via our Facebook and Disqus comment sections below.

Oct. 31, 6:29 p.m. Text updated and notes second possible layout with two buildings on the vacant land.
