(Oct. 26, 2020, 9:25 a.m.) -- On Sunday afternoon Oct. 25, barely ninety minutes after a shooting left a man wounded on Councilman Supernaw's 4th Council district (11th/Coronado), 1st district residents in LB's Washington Middle School neighborhood, represented since December 2019 by Councilwoman Mary Zendejas, had the latest in multiple shootings afflicting their mainly working class neighborhood. This time it was a "drive=by" that left a man (adult) struck/wounded in the area of 14th St./Cedar Ave..(adjoining a street median dubbed "14th St. Park.")

LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Eric Fernandez says that at about 5 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 25, officers were dispatched to the area of 14th st/Cedar Ave. regarding a drive-by shooting and found a man (adult) shot/wounded. LBFD responded and transported the victim to a hospitl in stable ondition.

Lt. Fernandez says "Preliminary information indicates the suspect fled the scene in a sedan type vehicle. Gang Detectives responded and the investigation is ongoing."

Since June 1, residents of LB's mainly working class 1st Council district (a little over a mile due north of LB's costly new Civic Center) have endured the highest number of shootings of any LB Council district (see LBREPORT.com shooting dashboard on our front page: at this link

Zendejas. elected in November 2019 with the financial support of the LB Police Officers union, Mayor Robert Garcia and immediate past 1st dist. Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez, will next face voters (if she seeks reelection) in 2022 with allowable campaign fundrising starting in 2021. As previously reprorted by LBREPORT.com, Zendejas has used her position as chair of the Council's "Elections Oversight Committee" (chosen by Garcia) to explore ways to increase allowable campaign contributions to City Council candidates. (The City Attorney has said it would require a citywide ballot measure: LBREPORT.com coverage here.)
