(Oct. 9, 2020, 8:35 a.m.) -- A man was shot/ and wounded in an attempted robbery in downtown Long Beach on Thursday night (Oct. 8), confronted by a group of six men who demanded his posssessions and then shot him.

Initial information via morning Watch Commander Lt.Eric Hooker indicates that at about 11:57 p.m.,LBPD patrol units were flagged down in the area of 3rd St/Pine Ave. regarding attempted robbery and shooting that had just occurred.

Officers were contacted by a man who'd been shot/wounded and informed officers that "the shooting occurred in the area of 7th Street and Long Beach Blvd, where he was approached by a group of six male adults who demanded the victim's possessions then fired one round striking him in his lower extremities. Officers responded to that area and located evidence of a shooting."

LBFD attempted to transport the victim to a local hospital but he declined and transported himself to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

It's at least the fourth shooting -- two of which are homicides -- in or near LB's downtown within the past 30 days. (LBREPORT.com coverage here, here, here and here [south shore/Hotel Maya].) Several of the shootings are associated wth robberies or attempted robberies. During this period LB also had additioanl shootings in downtown-neighboring parts of Central LB.
