(Oct. 23, 2020, 9:45 p.m.) -- A woman was shot/wounded in the 1600 block of Pine Ave.(Council district 1/Zendejas) in the midnight hour Thursday Oct. 22, roughly three hours after a woman says a man shot at her in the area of 10th St./Myrtle Ave.

LBPD Public Information Officer Allis Gallagher says that on Oct. 21 at about 9:20 p.m., officers responded to the area of 10th St./Myrtle Ave. regarding a no-person-hit shooting. LBPD says a woman (adult) told officers she had been been involved in a verbal altercation with a man (adult); the dispute escalated, and the suspect shot at the victim. The rounds (bullet casings recovered at the scene) missed hitting the victim ' the suspect fled before officers arrived; and LBPD described the victim as "uncooperative with the investigation." .

About three hours later at about 12:55 a.m. on Oct. 23, LBPD responded to a shots call in the 1600 block of Pine Ave. (Willmore City/Council district 1/Zendejas.) Officers found "evidence consistent with a shooting, including bullet casings" and a 27 year old LB woman subsequently showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound and said a man (adult) approached her and shot at her. She suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

There's no immediately known motive for the shooting; LBPD's investigation is continuing.

The net result tacitly signals unspoken support for using a future citywide election to propose a ballot measure creating a "full time Council' (quadrupled Council salaries/pensions) in addition to a measure allowing increased camapign contributions to elect them.

The next regularly scheduled citywide election isn't until 2022 (when incumbents in CDs 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 would next face voters), but if Mayor Garcia (as widely speculated) were to exit for a position in a Biden-Harris administration, THAT would trigger a specially scheduled citywide election to fill a Mayoral vacancy. It would create an opportunity for citywide ballot measures on all sorts of subjects, including an increase in election campaign contribution limits and possibly a "full time Council" (quadrupled Council salaries and pensions.)
