(Oct. 11, 2020, 7:45 a.m.) -- The Irvine Unified School District and Los Alamitos Unified School District, which were among the first nearby to reopen for classroom instruction, are now seeing their first cases of COVID-19 among students and staff. The initial numbers are small but are concerning because COVID-19 is so contagious.
As of Oct. 11, half a dozen students and a small number of staff were infected in Irvine (IUSD dashboard here and as of Oct. 9 one student and one staffer are confirmed infected in Los Al.(Los Al district dashboard here As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, on Oct; 9, LBUSD's public information office informed LBREPORT.com that it sent a notification late last week to parents/guardians of some students at the Willard Child Development Center. That location now joins five other LBUSD sites where some parents received similar notifications (previous LBREPORT.com coverage here.) On their websites, the Irvine and Los Al districts have similar statements on their protocols: (IUSD) "In the event there is a positive case, affected individuals will be contacted directly by their school principals or staff and they will receive a letter that may include self-isolation directions and other important information. Families of students who are not affected will not receive a notification letter and no action will be required. School principals or school staff will communicate new cases directly to their school communities. Please note that our District will only communicate and provide data for confirmed COVID-19 cases." On Oct. 9, LBUSD management announced that if LA County reaches a less restrictive COVID-19 tier, LBUSD plans to phase in limited reopenings. LBREPORT.com coverage here. [Scroll down for further.] |
