(Oct 29, 2021, 2:55 p.m.) -- LA County District Attorney prosecutors have indicated they will seek to convict the (now former) LBUSD School Safety Officer whose Sept. 27 shooting mortally wounded Manuela ("Mona") Rodriguez of second degree murder. What's second degree murder? See here. The defendant didn't enter a plea at his arraignment today, which will be postponed until December. If convicted of 2nd degree murder, he faces a possible sentence of from 15 years to life in prison. Prosecutors will have the burden of proving every element of the offense charged beyond a reasonable doubt. The defendant is innocent unless and until proven guilty of that offense or potentially of a lesser charge. Developing. |
