(Sept. 11, 4:40 a.m.) -- LBPD says a man was fatally shot ijn the area of 10th St/Cherry Ave. by an individual he knew in connection with an accusation of domestic violence and an assault on the victim's relatives.

In a release, LBPD says officers responded at about 7 a.m. to the area of 10th St./Cherry Ave., found a shooting victim down in the front yard of a residence, began performing life-saving measures on him until LBFD arrived and determined the victim deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Mathew Hak, 50, of Long Beach.

[LBPD release text] The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect arrived at Hak’s residence and confronted Hak while outside. The suspect fired his firearm, striking Hak at least once and also striking a residence. No other injuries were reported. The suspect then fled the area in his vehicle, which was parked nearby. Detectives learned Hak and the suspect were known to one another. The motive is believed to be an accusation of domestic violence and an assault to Hak's relatives."

LBPD says Kontharo Kang, 53, of Long Beach is a suspect in the case; and at roughly 4:50 p.m. on the day of the fatal shooting, LBPD detectives located Kang and took him into custody at a relative’s residence in the 2800 block of E 63rd St. He's booked on suspicion of murder.
