UPDATE: LBPD Arrests Three Suspects In Midday Murder In DTLB: Man Is Shot/Killed Area 4th/Atlantic, Police Believe During An Attempted Robbery

(Sept. 10, 2020, 7:09 p.m., updated Sept. 11, 3:30 a.m.) -- A man was shot to death in the noon hour Sept. 10 in downtown Long Beach in the area of Atlantic Ave./4th St. (1st dist/Zendejas).

In a release, LBPD says that based on their preliominary investigation, detectives believe "three suspects were attempting to rob the victim and one of the suspects shot the victim during the commission of the crime. The suspects fled the location on foot prior to officers’ arrival. While searching the area, Patrol Officers recovered a rifle near the 500 block of E. 5th Street and located and detained the suspects in the 600 block of Long Beach Blvd."

LBPD has arrested three suspects in connection with the homicide, detailed below.

As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, LBPD administrator Karen Owens said that at about 12:30 p.m., officers located a man (adult) seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. A female who was seated in the passenger seat was giving aid to the victim; officers began life saving measures. requested paramedics; and LBFD transported the victim to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

LBPD says through their investigation, Homicide Detectives arrested three suspects, all LB residents and all booked on suspicion of murder: Mykeel Tucker Peddycoat, 23; Branden Charles Wilson, 28 and Ayana Denae Powell, 19.

The Sept. 10 midday fatal shooting follows a non-fatal shooting the night before (Sept; 9) three blocks south on Atlantic Ave. at 1st St. (2nd dist/Pearce). A man was shot/wounded in a possible attempted robbery by (witnesses said) two men, armed with a firearm, who appeared to be attempting to rob the victim. LBPD hasn't indicated whether it believes the two attempted robberies are related. .
