1st District Homicide/Fatal Shooting 7th St./Alamitos (Gumbiner Park)

Fatal shooting comes five days after no-person-hit shooting in same location.

(Sept. 25, 2020, 11:55 a.m.,, updated 8:10 p.m.) -- A man (adult) was shot to death shortly before daybreak today (Sept. 25) in the 1st Council district's "Gumbiner Park" (7th/Alamitos street median with some park equipment.)

Today's (Sept. 25) fatal shooting followsa no-person-hit shooting (suspect fired shots, fled the area, casings found) and fled the area) five days earlier shortly before midnight on Sept. 20.

In s release, LBPD says that on September 25 at about 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the park (800 block of E. 7th Street) regarding a report of a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Officers began life-saving measures and requested paramedics. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and rendered medical aid, however the victim was later determined deceased at the scene. At this time, the victim is only being identified as a male adult pending notification to next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Victim was in the park when unknown suspect(s) approached him and began shooting. The suspect(s) fled in an unknown direction. The exact motive for the shooting is currently unknown. Detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the ongoing investigation.

It's the second 1st district homicide this month; on Sept. 10, a man was shot/killed in the area of 4th St./Atlantic Ave. (attempted robbery)
