(Sept. 28, 2020, 8:35 p.m.) -- East Long Beach will get one of CA's first Amazon Fresh stores, using the rebuilt former Haagen/Albertsons/Lucky location (6235 E. Spring St.) in the NW quadrant of the Spring St./Palo Verde Plaza retail center. The company pulled permits within the past few days disclosing its planned use, which had been the subject of much speculation.

So what's Amazon Fresh? The company offers details on how it works at this link which contains multiple connecting links.

Opening date to be announced.

Counncilwoman Stacy Mungo's office says an Amazon emailed the following text to her:

Amazon Fresh will not only provide a new, low-priced grocery store in the area, but will support the local community by creating hundreds of high-quality local jobs. The store will also donate surplus food to local food banks.

Amazon Fresh offers a seamless grocery shopping experience, whether shopping in-store or online, with consistently low prices and free same-day delivery and pick-up for Prime members.

Customers will find a wide assortment of national brands and high-quality produce, meat, and seafood, as well as a range of delicious prepared foods made fresh in-store every day.

Amazon Fresh introduces new ways to make grocery shopping more convenient, including the Amazon Dash Cart, which enables customers to skip the checkout line, and new Alexa features to help customers manage their shopping lists and better navigate the aisles.

The Amazon Fresh location will mean competition -- of a new type -- for Stater Brothers and Grocery Outlet (NE quadrant of Plaza retail area), a Pavilions just west on Spring St. @ Woodruff Ave. and a Ralphs on Palo Verde @ Wardlow Rd.
