(Sept. 13, 2020, 4:10 a.m.) -- Two L.A. County Sheriff's Deputies were ambushed/shot in their patrol car, in the 7 p.m. hour on Saturday Sept. 12. at or adjacent to the LA County Metro (Willowbrook) Station. Both underwent emergency surgery at a Lynwood hospital and at last report are in critical condition. At a 10 p.m. press briefing, LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the two deputies were sworn-in roughly 14 months ago; one is a 31 year old mother of a six year old boy; the other is a 24 year old man.

LASD broke news of the shooting via its Twitter. feed, including video of the shooter approaching and firing into the LASD vehicle before running off. (As of 4 a.m., the suspect remains at large.).

The video of the shooting sparked reaction from President Donald Trump, who Tweeted "Animals that must be hit hard!"

As events developed, LASD said in a Tweet that protesters showed at the Lynwood hospital, allegedly blocking the entrance/exit to the hospital emergency room and yelling "We hope they die" (referring to two ambushed Sheriff deputies.)

Shortly thereafter, LASD Tweeted: "Century Sheriff’s Station Watch Commander reports the following: After deputies issued a dispersal order for the unlawful assembly of a group of protesters blocking the hospital emergency entrance & exits, a male adult protester refused to comply...During his arrest, a struggle ensued at which time a female adult ran towards the deputies, ignored repeated commands to stay back as they struggled with the male and interfered with the arrest"

[LASD Tweet] The female adult, who was later identified as a member of the press, did not identify herself as press and later admitted she did not have proper press credentials on her person. Both individuals have been arrested for 148 P.C.

The female adult is in fact KPCC/LAist reporter Josie Huang, and her arrest was captured on video by ABC7, sparking anger from reporters and media outlets.
