(Sept. 2, 2020, 8:50 p.m.) -- The LA County Dept of Public Health (LACDPH) has announced (Sept. 2) it will allow K-12 schools to [LADPH text] "offer in-school services for a small cohort of students with Individualized Education Plans, students requiring instruction for English as a Second Language or students needing assessments or specialized in-school services, as long as the school is able to fully implement the Health Officer’s reopening protocols. This will get children who are in the most need of in-person learning back into their classrooms. We will not be opening the waiver program for instruction of students in grades TK-6 as we monitor the implementation of this effort to safely get students needing specialized in-school services back at school."
LBUSD (likely management) will decide whether to allow it, and if so on what terms, in Long Beach. LBUSD and TALB [Teachers Ass'n of LB] recently agreed to an MOU [Memorandum of Understanding] governing the terms on which teachers will teach under COVID19 conditions. The TALB-LBUSD MOU allows teachers some flexibility in COVID-related remote teaching. In the same Sept. 2 announcement, LACDPH said it will allow hair salons and barbershops can to re-open for indoor services at 25% occupancy provided they are in full compliance with the Health Officer’s protocols. Long Beach echoes that stance with these local requirements.
