(UDPATED Sept. 20, 2019, 8:45 a.m.) -- As initially reported by LBREPORT.com overnight and updated below, a suspect armed with a handgun (LBPD photo below) was fatally shot by an LBPD officer(s) who'd been conducting a surveillance on a vehicle believed involved in armed robberies earlier in the week, saw him exit the suspect vehicle and enter the 7/11 store on PCH/Clark Ave., confronted him in the store, told him multiple times to drop the gun and allegedly refused to do so.

In initial information, LBPD PIO Dandoy says that at about 11:30 p.m. (Sept. 19), detectives performing a surveillance on a vehicle believed involved in armed robberies earlier in the week, observed a man (adult) exit the vehicle and enter the business in the 5100 block E. PCH. PIO Dandoy says officers entered the business, told the suspect to drop the firearm multiple times; he [allegedly] didn't comply and an officer-involved shooting took place.

It's not immediately clear if the officer(s) involved were wearing body cams or if there's security cam video of what took place.

LBPD officers performed life-saving measures on the suspect. LBFD pronounced suspect deceased. No officers or others at the scene were injured (and the firearm in the photo above, with the gun casing from the officer's weapon nearby) was recovered..

LBPD took a second male suspect into custody from the suspect vehicle which was parked on a street behind the business.
