(Sept. 12, 2021, 6:40 a.m.) -- As LBREPORT.com flashed last night (Sept. 11) on our Facebook platform, LBCC's administration says an unnamed "special event" will disrupt a number of activities on LBCC's ELB campus on Monday Sept. 13 from noon until 10 p.m. LBREPORT.com presumes the "special event" is a partisan political event at which President Joe Biden will speak in opposition to the petition-initiated Sept. 14 recall election in which CA voters will decide whether to replace or retain Governor Gavin Newsom.
Public access to the Sept. 13 LBCC event is being tightly controlled. Councilwoman Mary Zendejas disclosed in a Sept. 11 Facebook exchange that the event will be "by invitation only."
It's not immediately clear who's deciding the invitees or what rules they'll be expected to follow, but the net effect will likely prevent any media visible/audible boos, jeers or hand-made signs from members of the public opposing controversial actions of the Biden and/or Newsom administrations. (The Bay area Mercury News described the crowd at a recent event featuring VP Kamala Harris speaking against the recall as union workers at an IBEW-NECA Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in San Leandro.) LBCC's website says the special event "will require all buildings on the north side of the Liberal Arts Campus (everything located between Carson Street to Harvey Way, and Clark Avenue to Faculty Avenue) to be closed on Mon, Sept. 13 starting 12:00 pm." An LBCC Sept. 11 emailed advisory to its campus community said "All classes in the following buildings are being relocated to the south side of campus or will be conducted remotely on Monday"; Buildings A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. K, L, P, and U portables between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m." LBCC's ELB campus is the same venue where Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign held a June rally (meaning the location has passed security checks previously.) Clinton campaign event organizers required an "RSVP" to attend their June 2016 event. Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders, then waging a grassroots battle for the Democratic Party's nomination, were kept outside some distance away from most media cameras and microphones. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
