Relay for Life Of Greater LB Teams/Volunteers Raise $55,000+ For American Cancer Society (And Yes You Can Still Contribute)

(Sept. 27, 2021, 4:45 a.m.) -- They planned for months. Had nearly two dozen supportive sponsors (listed below). And sixteen volunteer teams (listed below plus others virtually online) walked for 24 hours (9 a.m. hour Sept. 25 to 8 a.m. hour Sept. 26) and the Relay For LifeŽ of Greater Long Beach Area raised at least $55.798 for the American Cancer Society.

Organizers said that sum is expected to grow in updated tallies in the coming days...and donations can continue to be made through the group's website at www.relayforlife.org/llccca.

Relay teams gathered at ELB's POA Park and walked round the clock "because cancer doesn't sleep." Opening ceremonies (livestreamed by LBREPORT.com, now available on demand below) included remarks by Long Beach CD5 Councilwoman Stacy Mungo and Lakewood Mayor Mark Wood followed by an inspiring survivor's address by Cindy Brown (ovarian cancer survivor.)

Organizers filled their event with live entertainment, picnic games, contests and themed laps celebrating survivors and caregivers.

A 9 p.m. an emotion packed candlelit Luminaria took place. Lanterns bearing the names of those who live on in participants' hearts were accentuated by a bagpipe-led special lap walked in remembrance.












Relay teams included Abbey's Angels, #Gold Together Millikan CCC, International Walkers, Karren and Cheryl -- Team Bling, Lakewood Lifers, Pirates of a Cure-A-Bein', Puente Crusade, Purple Parrots, Road to Recovery, Sole Sisters Walking With Happy Feet to DeFeet Cancer, Strike Out Cancer Cerritos, Team Jane, Teamster Women, Troop 67 Long Beach, Veritas and Wellness Warriors.
