(Sept. 25, 2021, 5:50 a.m..) -- A 24-hour grassroots propelled anti-cancer fundraiser -- Relay For LifeŽ of Greater Long Beach Area -- kicks off Saturday morning (Sept. 25) at 9 a.m. at POA Park, 7390 E. Carson St. A round the clock relay of teams (some camping overnight) will walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society. They won't sleep because cancer doesn't sleep.

Even if you haven't signed up in advance, organizers invite you to come by for live entertainment, picnic games and contests, themed laps and more. They'd welcome your supportive presence and donations if you're able.

"We will celebrate our survivors and caregivers [and] remember those who live on in our hearts...and Fight Back against a disease that has affected too many" their website states.

LBREPORT.com livestreamed the opening ceremonies, now embedded below on demand:

At 9 p.m., an emotion packed candlelight "Luminaria" will take place with homemade paper lanterns -- bearing the names of loved ones -- to honor and remember a life touched by cancer, accompanied by a moment of silence for those we've lost.
