(March 12, 2013, 8:50 p.m.) -- LBREPORT.com is saddened to report that the man who perished in the March 7 overnight collision on Palo Verde Ave. b/w Los Santos Dr. and Atherton St. (just south of Marita St) was David Omel, a widely respected and beloved Long Beach resident...and the brother of former LB Fire Chief Harold Omel.

The news became public when the City Council adjourned in David Omel's memory earlier tonight (Mar. 12).

Mr. Omel was Vice President of Operations at VisionMaker Worldwide, prior to which he held a similar position with Palace Entertainment following roughly 30 years with The Walt Disney Co. where he rose to the position of Director of Guest Services.

Mr. Omel was killed when the VW Karmann Ghia he was driving crashed into a parked/unoccupied Ford Broncho on southbound Palo Verde Ave. A neighbor heard the collision and tried to rescue Mr. Omel from his car but was pushed back by flames.

We'll have further on Mr. Omel's life shortly. LBREPORT.com conveys our condolences to Mr. Omel's family and to the many in Long Beach who know them and have them in their thoughts and prayers now.
