Exiting Councilman Gary DeLong Files Paperwork Allowing Him To Begin Fundraising To Seek Long Beach-West OC Congressional Seat Won By Alan Lowenthal In 2012 Contest With DeLong

(Feb. 1, 2014) -- On January 31, Councilman Gary DeLong (who's exiting the Council under term limits in mid-July) filed paperwork (a "Statement of Organization") with the Federal Election Commission enabling him to begin raising money to seek the Long Beach-West Orange County Congressional seat (47th district) won by Alan Lowenthal in a November 2012 race against DeLong.

In that race, DeLong ran as a "no-labels" independent minded Republican open to finding common ground. Lowenthal ran and won as a veteran Dem. In the FEC paperwork, DeLong indicates he's running (again) as a Republican.

In an emailed statement, DeLong tells LBREPORT.com: "Political analysts anticipate a significantly different voter turnout in 2014 due to mid-term elections, the administration's current low approval ratings due to the poor rollout of the Affordable Care Act, and fewer controversial ballot measures. However, I won't run if the data doesn't show a clear path to victory."

Developing.
