Countdown Clocks

Bonnie Lowenthal saysLBREPORT.com says
"...In the legislature, Bonnie stood up to the special interests to get more than $31 million of our tax dollars returned to the City of Long Beach, allowing the city to balance its budget."The $31 million apparently refers to money returned to the City of Long Beach as a result of the state legislature's dissolution of Redevelopment Agencies statewide, a move recommended by Gov. Brown to help balance Sacramento's state budget. The City of Long Beach (with Mayor Foster especially outspoken) strongly opposed Sacramento's dissolution of Redevelopment Agencies.

While regretting the loss of Redevelopment, city management has acknowledged that the monies Long Beach received from the dissolution of Redevelopment did produce a windfall that helped produce a surplus in LB City Hall's General Fund FY14 budget. Without the returned sums, Long Beach wouldn't have a surplus this year, even with Council majority approved reductions to police, fire and other core services and "pension reform."

LBREPORT.com's Fact Check is a work in progress. With the tsunami of mail that has arrived from some candidates (some more than others), we analyze and comment on some of the more conspicuous claims we've seen. We can't possibly examine everything, and some candidates send more mail and say more noteworthy things than others. We're starting with mail from Mayoral candidates but we hope to expand to others. We invite you to help us by providing examples of campaign materials you believe deserve merit fact check attention. Scan or attach the material, cite what you believe deserves attention and why, and email them to us at mail@LBReport.com or via our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lbreport.
