(June 15, 2012) -- The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra's Chamber Players recently combined with the Aquarium of the Pacific for a performance that evoked the rhythms of the ocean and its many marvelous living things.
On June 7, the Long Beach Symphony's Chamber musicians assembled at the Aquarium and performed George Crumb’s Voice of the Whale for flute, cello and piano and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals performed in its original chamber version for two pianos, string quintet, flute, clarinet and percussion (accompanied by a reading of the poetry by Ogden Nash). Photo credit: Diana Lejins I was present for this musical-oceanic journey and captured some of it in sight and sound. My small camera mike picked up a few more highs than lows, but it still conveys how marvelous it was. To hear a sound clip, click here. The perforance featured Long Beach Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players Gloria Cheng & Brian Pezzone (piano), Kazi Pitelka (viola), Cécilia Tsan (cello), Geoff Osika (bass), Diane Alancraig (flute), Gary Bovyer (clarinet), Roger Wilkie & Mei Change (violin) and Lynda Sue Marks (percussion).
