GLOBAL Summons LB Artists To "Bootcamp" Training Today by Joe Mello, Community Correspondent |
(Oct. 4, 2011) -- The term "Boot camp" (coined in the Spanish-American war as an intensive training session for U.S. Marines) has come to mean any type of intensive training session...and that's what the Arts Council for Long Beach offers local artists later today (Oct. 4). The Arts "Bootcamp" includes fast paced training sessions for anyone involved in Long Beach's diverse arts scene, a practical addition to GLOBAL (Greater Long Beach Arts Lab), the Arts Council's month-long celebration of the arts. Today's "Arts Bootcamp" takes place at the EXPO Arts building, 4321 Atlantic Ave. in Bixby Knolls (doors open at 5:00 p.m., sessions from 5:30-7:30 p.m., mixer from 7:30-8:30 p.m.). Tickets are $10 and available at the door. Arts Bootcamp training includes 30 minute breakout sessions with two choices of a session. The Arts Council for Long Beach has organized the training with support from the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association, which sponsors the very successful arts-oriented First Fridays. All skill levels of artists, educators, musicians, art activists, and promoters are welcome It's an opportunity to meet and interact with a cross-section of those active in the Long Beach arts scene. The six panels during the three sessions are:
Some of Long Beach’s most influential art devotees are among the panelists including: Sue Ann Robinson, Director of Collections, Long Beach Museum of Art; Anne Huyck, Director of Arts and Learning, Arts Council for Long Beach; David Spiro, Fundraising Consultant; Ryan Smolar, Marketing and Website Consultant; Logan Crow, Founder of Cinemateque / Mondo Celluloid; Lauren Morris, Executive Director Long Beach Playhouse; and Blair Cohn, Bixby Knolls Improvement District/First Fridays. (LBReport.com is (again) a supportive media sponsor of GLOBAL and this writer is pleased to be part of tonight's "Meet the Media" session.) Moderators for the panels include: Gary De Witt Marshall III, Co-Director Musical Theater University; Brian Trimble, Curator of Education, CSULB University Art Museum; Rebecca Buckley, Long Beach Non-Profit Partnership; and Denis McCourt, Producing Artistic Director, Public Theater of Long Beach.
