CSULB Releases This Image Of Suspect in On-Campus Slashing Of Student
(April 23, 2010, updated) -- The CSULB police website has released this suspect image regarding an on-campus slashing attack that took place over a week ago and allegedly victimized a transgender student in a bathroom.

Suspect: M/W, 20s, 5’09-5’10, thin build, dark colored hair, light complexion
Wearing: Dark colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored khaki shorts
Details: On the Thursday, April 15, 2010, a 27-year-old transgender CSULB student reported to the University Police the following incident: At about 9:30 pm the reporting party was approached by the above-described suspect in the men’s restroom located on the west side of the KKJZ building. The suspect called the student by first name and the student responded. The student reported the suspect then pulled the student’s t-shirt up and over the student’s head and pushed him back into the stall. The suspect then used a sharp object to slash the student’s chest. The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction of travel. The University Police are continuing to investigate this matter and ask that anyone having information regarding the matter contact Detective Leyva of the CSULB-UPD at (562) 985-4101.

The incident is reported in the CSULB police daily activity log as an April 15 assault with a deadly weapon in "police speak" ("A 27YO MALE REC'D A CUT TO HIS TORSO WHEN AN UNK MALE SLASHED THE VICT W/ A SHARP OBJECT IN A 1ST FL MEN'S RM NEAR KKJZ. THE VICT WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSP BY FACULTY - SUSP IS DESC AS A W/M 20'S 5'10" THIN, & WAS WEARING A DRK HOODIE & SHORTS") and without details that CSULB's administration has chosen to release now.
CSULB's Public Affairs Office provided us with a statement below (basically restating information on the Police website)
The transgender aspect to the slashing incident was first reported on Facebook...and CSULB released a statement echoing the Police Department information later in the day.
CSULB's press office today (April 23) released the following statement:
On the Thursday, April 15, 2010, a 27-year-old transgender student at Cal State Long Beach reported that he was attacked in a university restroom.
At about 9:30 p.m., the reporting party was approached by a suspect in the men’s restroom located on the west side of the KKJZ building. The suspect called the student by his first name, and the student responded. The student reported the suspect then pulled the student’s t-shirt up and over the student’s head and pushed him back into the stall. The suspect then used a sharp object to slash the student’s chest. The suspect then fled the area in an unknown direction of travel.
University Police strongly believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no additional threat to the campus community. Officers are continuing to investigate the case and ask that anyone having information regarding the matter contact Det. Johnny Leyva at 562/985-4101.
