Man Is Shot, Found In 14th/Chestnut Alley (West End of 14th St. Park Near Seaside Park), Quick Walk From "Mayor's Build" House That Mayor Foster & Habitat for Humanity Renovated And Invited Family To Buy/Move Into



(April 15, 2014) -- A man was found shot last night (April 14) in an alley at the western end of 14th St. Park, steps from the eastern entrance to Seaside Park. The crime scene in the 1400 block of Chestnut Ave. and very close to the "Mayor's Build" house that Mayor Bob Foster helped "Habitat for Humanity" build/renovate and invited a family to buy at a highly publicized press event in October, 2011.

The shooting took place in the 1st Council district, a little over a mile due north of LB City Hall.


LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona tells LBREPORT.com that at about 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Henderson Ave/Cowles St regarding a person with a gun call. A caller then reported hearing shots in the area of the 1400 block of Chestnut.

Officers located a man (adult) in an alley with what appeared to be a gunshot wound described as non-life-threatening. The victim was transported to a hospital...and LBPD says its investigation is ongoing.

In October 2011, local media reported on a "Mayor's Build" Habitat for Humanity house built in the area for an financially deserving family. Mayor Foster's website featured the house with videos and photos showing him installing carpet and doing interior work. A video on the Mayor's website, produced by City Hall's cable channel (LBTV3) and uploaded onto YouTube.com, includes 1st district Councilman, now Vice Mayor and Mayoral candidate Robert Garcia, accompanying the Mayor to congratulate the family on becoming homeowners in the area.

In 2010, Mayor Foster named 1st dist. Councilman Garcia to chair the Council's Public Safety Committee. For the past two years; Councilman Garcia held no hearings of his Public Safety Committee in August-September on the public safety impacts of budgets annually recommended by Mayor Foster.
